SLEEP & BED CONSULTATION

Restful sleep begins with the right bed

Restful sleep can contribute to general well-being – and how easily we come to rest depends largely on how well the bed and mattress suit our body. At Imperial Interiors in Zurich, we take the time to find out exactly that together with you. We focus on personal consultation and support you individually. In this guide, you will learn what makes for a restful place to sleep and what matters in a personal bed consultation.

What makes for restful sleep

A well-matched place to sleep supports the spine in its natural form while relieving the areas that bear the most weight – such as the shoulders and hips. When the body is carried evenly and pressure is gently distributed, the muscles can relax and sleep can become calmer. Because everyone is built differently and lies differently, there is no standard solution here, only the one that suits you.

Mattress and base as a system

A bed always works as a whole: mattress and base must be matched to each other so that support and pressure relief develop as intended. The base absorbs movement and influences how the bed adapts to your body, while the mattress shapes the immediate lying comfort. Only in their interplay does a sleep system emerge that carries your sleeping position and body weight.

The DUXIANA Pascal spring system

As the exclusive Swiss distribution partner of DUXIANA, we carry the Swedish brand that has stood for high-quality sleep systems since 1926. At its heart is the patented Pascal spring system, which adapts to the body and sleeping position and distributes pressure in a targeted way. In this way, the spine can be supported and the lying comfort matched to the individual body shape.

A calm, well-ventilated sleep environment

Besides the bed itself, the surroundings also contribute to good sleep: a calm, darkened and well-ventilated room helps many people to settle more easily. Breathable and natural materials support a pleasant sleeping climate. With our in-house brand NUVOSETTE, we offer handcrafted beds, Italian bed linen and premium terry to OEKO-TEX standard.

Trial lying in our showroom

Whether a sleep system truly suits you is best revealed by lying down – which is why we warmly invite you to try our beds at our showroom on Nüschelerstrasse 30, about five minutes' walk from Zurich's main railway station. At your leisure, you can test different systems and feel how support and pressure relief work for you. Our personal consultation takes the time this requires.

Please note: a sleep consultation does not replace a medical diagnosis. You are welcome to arrange an appointment at +41 44 211 47 57 or info@imperial-interiors.com.

How Long Does a Mattress Last? Honest Answers on Lifespan and HygieneThere is no scientifically proven rule such as “replace every 8 years” – such intervals come from the industry, not from research. What is established: worn-out beds that no longer support you impair sleep, washing bed linen at 55 °C or above reliably kills house dust mites, and below 50% humidity mites dry out. What counts is the condition of the bed, not its year of birth. The Right Pillow: What the Evidence Shows for Neck PainPillow height and shape determine the alignment of the cervical spine – not the marketing. A systematic review shows that the right pillow can reduce neck pain and waking symptoms; general sleep quality, by contrast, changes little. In comparative studies, latex pillows performed best. The right height is individual: side sleepers need more, back sleepers less.Bedroom Temperature: Why Heat Is the Real Sleep ThiefHeat and humid warmth demonstrably disturb sleep – they increase wake phases and reduce deep and REM sleep. A fixed “ideal temperature” such as the often-quoted 18 °C, however, is not scientifically robust: a large field study found the best sleep efficiency between 20 and 25 °C, with large individual differences. What matters is avoiding trapped heat and moisture in the bed.Which Bed for Back Pain? What Studies Really ShowThe best available evidence supports a medium-firm, individually fitted bed for back pain – not the hardest one possible. In a randomised Lancet study, medium-firm mattresses performed markedly better than firm ones for chronic low-back pain. What matters is that the spine stays straight while you lie down: shoulders and pelvis sink in, and the middle of the body is supported.
