What Does a Good Bed Cost? Honest Prices in Swiss Francs

The question hardly any premium retailer answers – we do: high-quality innerspring mattresses start at CHF 2'800 with us, complete beds from our own brand NUVOSETTE at CHF 3'900, DUXIANA beds at CHF 5'300. Calculated over ten years, that is one to one and a half francs per night. More important than the number is knowing what you are paying for – and where saving is smart and where it never is.

Why nobody names prices – and we do

“How much should a good bed cost?” is one of the most frequently asked questions before buying a bed – and in the premium segment in particular, answers are hard to find: many luxury manufacturers hide their prices behind “on request”. That creates exactly the mistrust it is meant to prevent. Which is why we lay our price architecture open: we carry innerspring mattresses from CHF 2'800 (NUVOSETTE), from CHF 3'500 (King Koil Reserve Luxury) and from CHF 3'600 (DUXIANA Pascal). Complete beds start at CHF 3'900 (NUVOSETTE) and CHF 5'300 (DUXIANA); the range is open at the top, depending on model, size, fabric and configuration. If you know these figures, you can assess instead of guess.

The most honest calculation: cost per night

A bed is one of the few pieces of furniture you use for around eight hours every day. That is why we like to calculate per night – a simple worked example assuming ten years of use (an assumption, not a scientifically fixed expiry date – what matters is the condition): a NUVOSETTE bed from CHF 3'900 works out at just over one franc per night, a DUXIANA from CHF 5'300 at around one franc fifty. Any coffee bought out of home costs more. With systems built on replaceable components – DUXIANA, for instance, allows spring cassettes and top pads to be renewed, according to the manufacturer – the service life of the base extends further still, which improves the calculation even more.

What you are really paying for in the premium segment

The price difference between a bargain bed and a premium bed lies in things a quick look will not reveal: in the number and quality of the springs (pocket springs instead of connected springs, and at DUX multi-layer systems made of Swedish steel wire – a manufacturer specification), in the density of the upholstery foams, in certified cover fabrics, in genuine suspension in the base as well instead of mere box styling, in handcraft and in the adaptability to your body. And in the service: consultation with trying the bed, delivery and assembly by our own team, availability after the purchase. At the same time, Stiftung Warentest notes: a high price alone does not guarantee a better fit – what remains decisive is that the bed suits your body. That is exactly what trying the bed is for.

Where saving is smart – and where it never is

From our consulting practice, honestly sorted:

  • Never save: on the mattress and the support – this is where it is decided whether the bed fulfils its purpose. Medium-firm and individually fitting performs best in studies.
  • Save smartly: on size beyond your actual need (180 instead of 200 if the room dictates it) and on fabric upgrades that are purely visual.
  • Postpone rather than omit: a headboard, bed bench or second topper can be added later – the base cannot.
  • Ask about the complete package: delivery, assembly and service belong in the price comparison, not just the number on the label.
  • Be wary of a “box-spring look” at a discount price: a box without genuine springs is just a pedestal.

Now in concrete terms: assess instead of guess

Whether CHF 3'900 or CHF 15'000 is the right budget depends not on prestige but on your body, your sleeping habits and your expectations of material and longevity. Our recommendation: set your budget only after trying the bed – the difference between the price levels is clearer when lying down than on paper. The initial consultation with us is free of charge, and we quote you the prices for every model openly – over the phone as well.

Frequently asked questions

How much should a good bed cost?

As a guide from our range: high-quality innerspring mattresses from CHF 2'800, complete premium beds from CHF 3'900 (NUVOSETTE) or CHF 5'300 (DUXIANA), open at the top depending on model and configuration. More important than the number: the bed has to suit your body when you try it – a high price alone does not guarantee that.

Why are good mattresses so expensive?

Because the costs sit inside: the number and quality of the pocket springs, the density of the foams, certified covers, handcraft and adaptability. Add to that the service, from trying the bed through to assembly. Spread over the years of use, the price comes down to a matter of francs per night.

What does a DUXIANA bed cost?

With us, DUXIANA beds start at CHF 5'300 and the Pascal mattresses at CHF 3'600 – open at the top depending on model line, size and features. We quote you the prices for every model transparently, in the showroom or over the phone.

Is an expensive bed even worth it?

Calculated per night, the question puts itself into perspective: over ten years of use (a calculation assumption), a premium bed costs around one to one and a half francs per night. Whether it is worth it for you is decided by how it feels to lie on – which is why you should try the bed before deciding on a budget.
