Buying Designer Furniture – How to Recognise an Original

"Designer furniture" appears on many labels and rarely means the same thing twice. A simple check helps when buying: is there a named design with a year, is there a maker's house behind it, and does the dealer sell it with authorisation? We represent few houses, but fully – among them Flou, which we represent exclusively in Switzerland. Selection happens with samples in hand; delivery and assembly are handled Switzerland-wide by our own team.

Three Things You Can Check Before You Buy

First, the design: with a genuine piece of designer furniture, the designer and the year it was created can be named, and the model has stayed in the programme for years rather than a single season. Second, the manufacturing: ask to see the maker's documentation – materials, cover variants, dimensions – and ask about spare parts and whether it can be reordered. Third, the distribution route: authorised dealers buy directly from the manufacturer and can configure versions that fit your space exactly. A reputable supplier answers these three questions without hesitation. What else to look out for in workmanship and material is covered in detail in our guide.

Which Houses We Represent – and Why There Are Few

We deliberately carry a manageable number of makers, because we want to know each house fully and offer it fully. These include Flou, Natevo and Dallagnese for furniture, Bomma and Melogranoblu for lighting, and DUXIANA, King Koil and our own label NUVOSETTE for sleep. The complete overview of all houses and categories is on our brands page.

From Sample to Delivery Date

A purchase doesn't begin with an order number, but with a selection: cover samples, wood and metal swatches, measurements against your floor plan. Screens render colours differently, so we decide with the sample in the light of your own room – if you can't come to Zurich, clarify the shortlist with us beforehand by phone. Once the configuration stands, we give you a binding price and production lead time before you order. Delivery and assembly are handled throughout Switzerland by our own team, for stock items usually within 48 hours of payment being received. Part payment is available for larger purchases; we advise in English, German, French or Italian.

Frequently asked questions

How do I recognise genuine designer furniture?

By three checkable points: the design is named with its designer and year of creation, the manufacturer documents materials, dimensions and cover variants, and the dealer buys with authorisation directly from the manufacturer. If any of these is missing, it's worth asking before you order.

Which designer brands can I buy at Imperial Interiors?

Flou for beds, sofas, sofa beds and armchairs – we represent the house exclusively in Switzerland –, Natevo for furniture with integrated lighting, Dallagnese for wardrobes, sideboards and dining tables, Bomma and Melogranoblu for lighting, plus Locherber Milano and Unopiù for outdoors. For sleep, DUXIANA, King Koil and our own label NUVOSETTE.

Do you deliver designer furniture throughout Switzerland?

Yes, with our own team and our own assembly. Stock items go out usually within 48 hours of payment being received, individually configured pieces follow the manufacturer's production lead time – we give you a binding date before you order.

Do I have to come to the showroom in Zurich to buy?

It isn't necessary: selection, configuration and quotation can be clarified by phone, in English, German, French or Italian. A visit is still recommended, though, because seating comfort, fabrics and proportions can only be judged in person. The showroom at Nüschelerstrasse 30 in 8001 Zürich is open Monday to Friday 10 am to 7 pm and Saturday 10 am to 6 pm.
